Boney Blockburger

Date: Probably 1870s or 1880s

Description: Boney Blockburger is said to be one of Ben Blockburger's two Indian wives while he was living in Hayfork and later in Blocksburg. The 1880 Census records show Ben living in "House 1" in Blocksburg with an Indian domestic servant named "Boney." She was 26 and Ben was 52. In the second house was an Indian woman named Sally, age 40, along with her 9-year-old son, and a disabled Indian man, age 70, who may have been a relative. Boney was replaced in 1887 when Ben married for the second time. Many of the townspeople were fond of her, and Ben's new wife, Harriet, did not a receive a very warm welcome. For more information about the Blockburgers, read Bev Windbigler and Nancy Miller's research.
