Blocksburg Correspondence
This story appeared in the Daily Standard on January 13, 1904.
Mother Earth gave us a good shaking at 11:25 p.m. Sunday, the 10th inst., from a Westerly direction, the first three shocks being heavier than the last three.
So far our winter weather has been all one could wish. The lowest temperature was on Tuesday the 5th inst., 27 degrees above zero. At noon Sunday it was 50 degrees on a north porch. It rained all Saturday night and until noon Sunday. To-day is cool but sunny. Stock looks fine, also grass and grain.
There is a great scarcity of hay all through these mountains.
A posse of timber locators are expected to-day presumably en route for the mountain timber above Wall's place. Bridgeville housed them last night.
Elisha Frost is spending the winter here and is kept pretty busy surveying.
Mr. B. Blockburger, Frank Hendrickson and E. M. Frost are keeping bachelor headquarters in the old Block's store building.
Dr. Llunborg of Ferndale, dentist, seems to be popular in his profession in our village.
Our Sunday School is in session every Sunday at 2 p.m. with quite a good attendance considering the time of the year. Mrs. Hembree is the superintendent.
Norton Tooby tarried here for two days last week, en route for Harris.
Mrs. Blockburger is about to seek a new home. She has been in our midst most of the time for 17 years. Her departure causes the closing of the W.U. telegraph office.
